These intelligent creatures are social and require companions. They need stimulating cages (minimum size is 40g tank) with climbing structures, toys, hiding spots, and deep bedding for burrowing. Mice can be quite tame with gentle handling but are not typically cuddly pets. Their diet consists of a commercial mouse mix supplemented with fresh fruits, vegetables, and occasional treats.  Due to their short lifespans (usually only 1-2 years) and potential for respiratory problems, they may not be ideal pets for young children.
